18 July 2003 : Nelson Law joint Green Council in Green Consumerism Training Course

A one-day training clause was jointly organized by the Green Council and the Environmental Division of the HKIE, in order to promote Green Consumerism in Hong Kong .
The training course was calledˇ§Introduction to Green Consumerism ˇV Series 1 ". It was held on 18 July 2003 (Friday) at the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers (HKIE) Seminar room.
The course had covered a wide range of subjects related to Green Consumerism. While emphasizing key issues, principles were illustrated with practical examples or relevant environment events.
Course contents had covered the following : - Introduction : Free economy and market mechanism, Green economy and sustainable development, Positive reinforcement: guidelines, sponsorship, grants, funds and awards etc. - Environmental value system : Environmental costs and values, Green consumerism. - Change of business model: towards sustainable development : Green production/manufacture, Green products and technology, Green procurement, Green purchasing and current purchasing activities. - Eco-labelling Scheme : Global Eco-Labelling Network (GEN), China Environmental Labelling, Hong Kong Green Label Scheme - Current Status : Application of green label on products and services, Feedback from community. - Local practice on green label : Government: prerequisite of tendering requirements, End-users: Green consumers, Manufacturers: Green products, Activities: Exhibitions, Seminars, and Promotions. - Case Study : Paints: government strategies; government actions; feedback from industries and consumers; response of green organizations etc.
A total of 60 participants had attended the training. Many felt that the training topics were very interesting and aroused interest in the new area of Green Consumnerism.
