Environmental Labeling is a Product Certification Scheme aiming at certifying products which are environmental friendly. Emphasis has been placed on the product life cycle (i.e. from cradle to grave).

Depending on the owner of the Scheme, there is a set of Criteria for the product (and its design and manufacturing processes) to fulfil before it can be awarded a Label.

Since it is a Product Certification Scheme, certified products are required to be submitted for test and if accepted, can apply the Label to the Product and/or its packaging.

Global Eco-labeling Network (GEN) is the global network that links up the Certifying Bodies. Its website is www.gen.gr.jp

Hong Kong Green Label Scheme (HKGLS) is run by the Green Council. Further details see www.greencouncil.org

The one operated in the Mainland China is called China Environmental Labeling Certification Scheme. It is administered by the Secretariat of China Certification Committee for Environmental Labeling (SCCEL).

This scheme has also got the Green Council of Hong Kong (also known as the Hong Kong Representative Office) to handle applications from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and anywhere outside China. Parties who want to apply through Green Council can approach the Council directly or visit www.Greencouncil.org
